John MacArthur's Explosive Eschatology

Glory to God the Creator for this nugget from the master exegete, John "Mac Daddy" MacArthur:

"The environmental movement is consumed with trying to preserve the planet forever. But we know that isn’t in God’s plan…

The earth we inhabit is not a permanent planet. It is, frankly, a disposable planet—it is going to have a very short life. It’s been around about six thousand years or so—that’s all—and it may last a few thousand more. And then the Lord is going to destroy it…

I’ve told environmentalists that if they think humanity is wrecking the planet, wait until they see what Jesus does to it. Peter says God is going to literally turn it in an atomic implosion so that the whole universe goes out of existence."

Kaplooey!

Grace and Peace,
Raffi

Mac's diatribe rests on one words, "forever". That's just silly. Nobody is thinking forever. They're thinking right now.

And He is coming back to restore it, not destroy it. I look forward to dwelling on the new earth, but in the mean time I continue to help properly to steward this one.

Utterly bizarre - this is an almost schizophrenic article. It is basically saying save the planet, use resources carefully. Oh but wait, it is all going to burn so it doesn't really matter in the long term.

I feel like he wrote this just to give some fodder to those who want to bash on environmentalism. There are some new-age types that get into "deep environmentalism" and whatnot which is to this leftist/ish mind a distraction from the real problem, our overuse of the resources supposedly placed for our comfort. The typical politician is not a new-age type!

Beyond that it is arrogant to assume that the world will end in a few thousand years. What if he is wrong? What if it does go on for another 10 or 100 thousand years? He has no way of knowing, he is just safe because he is going to die before anyone can call him out on it.

I also found the last paragraph extremely bizarre! The bit about the "atomic implosion", I have absolutely no clue how he managed to read that into that passage. Peter "literally" said this? Where?! So funny.

Ultimately this is the message of capitalist enjoyment of the world - we should preserve the world not because it deserves to be preserved, not because our childrens' childrens' children should be better off than us, not because God said it is good, but because we are entitled to its resources. Step outside and behold! Smell a rose. Walk in the woods. Open a mine. Build a highway. Plant, plant plant. Just make sure you are appreciating the beauty of it all. Enjoy!
