Forrest Gump and Christian Doctrine

We Missional/Post-Evangelical types are not big fans of the overuse of doctrinal statements and systematic summations of the gospel. (...also, we don't like being called "Missional/Post-Evangelical types,"...) I've written elsewhere about why this is so. But I recently saw a clip on YouTube that made the point better than I ever could. Jonathan Edwards, Pearl Jam and Serendipity

This used to be my Christian worldview... I was thinking about Jonathan Edwards' picture of his angry god the other day...it just popped into my head. At that very moment, one of my favorite songs, Pearl Jam's "Rearviewmirror," started playing on the radio. Ever had one of those moments? If you don't know the song, here it is (with lyrics below)...
